Outdoor sculpture pieces are part of the cultural national heritage of every country: they reflect the artistic resourcefulness of the people and generate true currents of appreciation and enthusiasm.

 

 There are special governmental programs that promote and support outdoor sculpture for its educational attributes. Both public and private works fall under the category of outdoor sculpture, and for proper conservation and maintenance, data on the history of such cultural elements are collected and archived. For every community an outdoor sculpture has a certain meaning, and it is part of the chronological evolution of a group of people living in the area.

The placing of an outdoor sculpture in the public garden, in the city central square or in the park is usually an official event with a certain symbolism. Generally speaking we are not talking only about the artistic value of such representations but about the event or the commemoration that generated the idea in the first place. Thus, local governments often order a symbolic outdoor sculpture to celebrate a special anniversary or to mark a date with a particular relevance in the history of the community. Under such circumstances, the name of the artist tends to fade behind the symbolic charge of the work, which is not the case with the creation of private collections and exhibitions.

One other function of outdoor sculpture is the decorative one; more and more home owners buy artworks especially designed for yards and gardens. This trend is pretty extensive, but there are some drawbacks to its wide spread too. The problem is that many people prove an immense bad taste in ordering an outdoor sculpture that doesn’t match in the least with the overall features of the house. Another situation specific to the use of outdoor decorations is the placing of outdoor sculpture works outside official institutions.

Such artistic representations are often thematic for the very function of the institution that they seem to guard. Otherwise, outdoor sculpture is pretty vast and antique; there are hundreds of examples of statuary groups that were part of the primitive cultures. Some of the old art works are still in place, carved in natural stone and guarding the present landscapes like some soldiers from the past. All in all, the concept of outdoor sculpture locations is not at all a new one, we are merely reinventing the functions and the attributes of art without adding too much novelty.
